Table 1.9 shows how some important pollutants partition between the various environmental media that they contaminate. Of the group, phenanthrene and tetrachloroethane are relatively volatile (high Henry's law constant) and partition significantly into the air. Note that PCP, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), and hexachlorobiphenyl all show about 80% partitioning to soil, which has a large influence on their bioavailability.
